Cliffs, stunning views, rock formations... The Harz is known for its rough climate and the legends surrounding the Brocken – the magic mountain is a popular destination for mountain bikers. Not only the variety, but also the size of this mountain bike paradise is impressive: it covers an area of more than 60 by 40 kilometres. Coming from all directions, you can start your tour in 31 villages and towns and explore the Harz by bike. Here you will find plenty of service for cyclists, mountain-bike-friendly accommodation, exciting MTB race events, bike parks and MTB guides who will take you on a tour.

Routes

The biggest bike paradise in Northern Germany... Since 2012 the VOLKSBANK ARENA HARZ consists of 74 routes totalling 2,300 km in length and with 50,000 vertical metres of climbing. The Harz mountain bike routes are accessible from the 31 starting points. In most of the towns and villages a map with an overview of all the Volksbank Arena Harz routes in the area can be found at a centrally located starting point. In other places such as Wildemann or Hahnenklee you can join MTB round-tours, even though their listed starting point is actually somewhere else. Details can be found in the individual route descriptions.

You can set off on one of the signposted and classified MTB routes of the Volksbank Arena Harz from over 31 locations in the Harz between Bad Grund and Neustadt, Goslar and Bad Sachsa. Here you will find plenty of service for cyclists, mountain-bike-friendly accommodation, exciting MTB race events, bike parks and MTB guides who will take you on a tour. Have fun in the Harz!!

Accomodation

Mountain bikers welcome! In 18 Harz towns and villages your hosts will know what mountain bikers need. They all display the sign "Mountainbiker willkommen". For example, you will get lots of vitamins and carbohydrates for breakfast, lunch packs and perhaps an extra water bottle so that the tour can go on a little longer.

Services

In many towns and villages in the Harz you can rent mountain bikes eBikes or eMountainbikes (pedelecs), in some places also fat bikes or downhill bikes, as well as the necessary equipment. The opening times vary according to the size of the rental station. In summer you can reserve bikes online from the larger rental stations (e.g. in Clausthal-Zellerfeld or Braunlage). For groups of more than five people you should always phone the rental station in advance to make sure that the bikes you would like to have are available in the necessary size on your chosen date.

charge the battery

New from 2020: When your battery runs out of energy – or you do, head with your eBike to one of the popular restaurants or cafés on your tour. You find them between Goslar and Herzberg, Wildemann and Trautenstein. If you see the sign "Hier laden Sie auf", they have an electricity socket for your battery charger, so both of you can refuel, you with a little stay and perhaps some cold drinks - and your bike with an Energy recharge!

Infos

Cautious and considerate Safety for mountain bikers is of paramount importance here in the Harz. You can help by having the right clothing and well-maintained equipment. Always keep your bike under control - there could be an unexpected hazard around the next corner!
